Las Vegas gains a its popularity by drawing on the collective memory of people who reside in the sphere of the media and pop culture. Consequently, it is this that explains the use of the replicas constructed in Las Vegas such as the pyramids in egypt, the Eiffel tower, Caesars Palace… all of which are very famous monuments and are easily recognizable to the most amount of people. We see this frequently in new developments as well, see Val ‘Europe, where the italian piazza is replicated just outside the shopping centre and dining court. People visiting will recognize these places, and maybe feel that they are in the midst of something more important. It brings them to the « idea » or « dream » of a place, reminding them of a scene in a movie, or perhaps the real place itself.
